7th Grade Regents Exam Preparation

The Opportunity

Robert A. Van Wyck Middle School 217 identified a need to support their 7th-grade students in preparing for the challenging Regents exam. Out of 60 students selected for the program, 30 students had historically scored below Level 3 (below proficiency) on prior New York State (NYS) math exams. This presented a unique challenge, as the school sought to raise the performance of students traditionally struggling with math concepts and academic confidence.

Our Approach

To address these academic challenges, the school partnered with PRACTICE Tutoring. The program focused on:

  • Customized Tutoring Sessions: Targeted support tailored to student needs in Regents-level math.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Offering after-school and Saturday programs to provide additional learning opportunities without disrupting the regular school day.
  • Comprehensive Student Engagement: Emphasizing participation and individual growth to boost motivation and build mathematical proficiency.

Our Impact

The partnership between Robert A. Van Wyck Middle School 217 and PRACTICE Tutoring yielded exceptional results:

  • 85% Pass Rate: 51 out of 60 students successfully passed the Regents exam, a significant achievement.
  • Remarkable Progress for Struggling Students: Among these students, 30 had previously scored below proficiency on NYS math exams, yet they were able to meet the challenge and succeed.
  • Positive School-Wide Impact: The after-school and Saturday programs proved to be a “difference maker” in ensuring students were prepared and motivated.

“We hope to work with PRACTICE again this coming year as we believe the after-school and Saturday program were a big difference maker. PRACTICE’s tailored programs can close achievement gaps, improve student outcomes, and inspire long-term educational success.
