Math Regents Support
The Opportunity
George J. Ryan is a middle school in Queens, NY serving 1,483 students (68% Asian, 13% Hispanic, 6% ELLs). Assistant Principal Roberts was interested in catalyzing the classroom support for students interested in getting ahead by taking advanced math courses.
Our Approach
In both 2022 and 2023 PRACTICE partnered with school leaders to create a program to support high-performing grade 7 and grade 8 Career and Technical Education students with dedicated Education Champions beginning in the fall and intensifying the tutoring assistance in the run-up to the state regents exams.
Our Impact
In 2022 100% of George J. Ryan’s 7th grade students passed the regents with an 80% or higher and in 2023 100% of George J. Ryan’s students passed the regents, including all 7th graders who were taking Algebra I and 8th graders that took Geometry for the first time.
